X-rays and Intraoral Pictures

The first step to a beautiful smile is a complete and thorough examination by your cosmetic dentist to determine your oral health. Any health issues will be addressed and corrected before any cosmetic work begins.

Health is the foundation of all attractive smiles. From correcting any bite problems (that can cause TMD and other painful symptoms) to restoring individual teeth, your dentist will ensure that your smile is healthy before enhancing its appearance.

When the foundation is ready, you can move on to the "artistry." You and your cosmetic dentist will discuss your goals and expectations of your new smile. What do you want your smile to look like? What don't you like about your smile that you want changed? Together, you will determine the "style" of your new smile. Your dentist may even show you a "Smile Style Guide" that illustrates many different smiles.

“Remember even though the outside world might be raining, if you keep on smiling the sun will soon show its face and smile back at you.” -Anna Lee

Dental Filling Facts

Our featured article this month on Dental Filling Facts comes from the American Dental Association. Their articles are continually updated so we are linking directly to their site to answer questions about your dental care.

From the American Dental Association:

"Overview

Thanks to advances in modern dental materials and techniques, dentists have more ways to create pleasing, natural-looking smiles. Dental researchers are continuing their often decades-long work developing materials, such as ceramics and polymer compounds that look more like natural teeth. As a result, dentists and patients today have several choices when it comes to selecting materials to repair missing, worn, damaged or decayed teeth.

These new materials have not eliminated the usefulness of more traditional dental materials, such as gold, base metal alloys and dental amalgam. That’s because the strength and durability of traditional dental materials continue to make them useful for situations, such as fillings in the back teeth where chewing forces are greatest."
